Xian, or Xi’an, is the capital of Shaanxi Province in central northwest China and is one of the largest of China’s cities with a population of over 8 million. Xian, or Chang’an as it was known in the ancient China era, is at the easternmost end of the Silk Road and has a history of over 3,000 years. There is a saying in China that if you want to see 100 year old China, go to Shanghai, if you want to see 1,000 year old China go to Beijing, but if you want to see 3,000 years of China history, go to Xian.
