Wuhan is a major Chinese transportation hub due to its position at the junction of the Yangtze and Han rivers and has become the political, cultural and financial center of Central China.

History of Wuhan
The city of Wuhan has only existed since 1927 when the three boroughs of Wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang were combined into one entity. However, the history of these three smaller cities goes back nearly 3,000 years. The area came to prominance during the Chu State, 2,000 years ago, as a major trading center.
Wuchang was also known as a center for intellectual studies and literature, in particular the poem celebrating the Yellow Crane Tower by Cui Hao, during the Tang Dynasty, made the Taoist temple the most famous building in southern China. Hankou became a prominent center for international trade in the 18th and 19th centuries, and even had a British Concession. Our Wuhan stock footage collection includes colonial architecture from this period, such as the Customs House.
The Wuchang Uprising in 1911 led to the fall of the Qing Dynasty and the creation of the Republic of China and during this period, the three cities were converged into Wuhan and it was made the capital of the Kuomintang government.

With the booming Chinese economy, it has become one of the most important Chinese cities for business, trade, foreign investment and information technology, with several special industrial zones created to attract hi-tech and export industries to the city.
