The Autonomous Region of Tibet is in the southwest of the People’s Republic of China and is the highest region on earth with an average elevation above sea level of 16,000 feet. The Himalaya Mountains run through Tibet, including Mount Everest which lies on the border with Nepal. In 2006, the highest railway in the world, the Qingzang Railway, was completed which connects Tibet by high-speed railway with Beijing.

Tibetan Buddhism
The region of Tibet contains many culturally significant sites relating to Tibetan Buddhism, including the Potala Palace, the Jokhang Temple and the Norbulingka Palace in Lhasa, which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites and attract pilgrims from all over the world. Tibetan People and Culture

Tibetan Capital City: Lhasa
The capital of Tibet is the city of Lhasa, which has an urban population of approximately 500,000 people. Lhasa has many tourist attractions, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Potala Palace. Surrounded by the Himalaya Mountains, Lhasa is one of the highest cities in the world.
