The Autonomous Region of Tibet is in the southwest of the People’s Republic of China and is the highest region on earth with an average elevation above sea level of 16,000 feet. The Himalaya Mountains run through Tibet, including Mount Everest which lies on the border with Nepal. In 2006, the highest railway in the world, the Qingzang Railway, was completed which connects Tibet by high-speed railway with Beijing.
